01 — Goal

Get your team to guess the title

Act out a title without making a sound. Your team scores a point every time they guess it before the time runs out.

02 — Setup

Write the slips

Form two teams. Each team writes film, book, song or TV titles on slips of paper and puts them in a bowl for the other team. Agree on a time limit per turn; two minutes is common.

03 — Signals

The standard signs

  • Film: crank an old movie camera.
  • Book: open your hands like a book.
  • Song: pretend to sing.
  • Number of words: hold up that many fingers, then the finger for the word you are acting.
  • Sounds like: cup a hand behind your ear.

04 — A turn

Act in silence

Draw a slip, read it alone and start the timer. Act out the whole title or word by word. Nod or point at the guesser when they get close. You may not speak, mouth words or spell letters.

05 — Winning

Most points wins

Teams take turns until every player has acted, or the slips run out. The team with the most correct guesses wins.

06 — Tips

Play smarter

  • Act out the easiest word first to get your team going.
  • Use “sounds like” for tricky words: act a rhyme instead.

Charades

Split into two teams. Each team writes titles on slips for the other team. On your turn, draw a slip and act it out in silence while your team guesses. No words, no mouthing, no pointing at objects. Guess within the time limit (often two minutes) to score a point. Teams alternate; most points wins.
